Electric Bike Maintenance Schedule: Daily, Monthly & Annual Checklist

Regular maintenance does not have to mean taking your ebike apart every weekend. Most problems are easier to catch with a few quick checks before riding, a basic clean after bad weather, and a more thorough inspection every few months.

An electric bike needs the same care as a regular bicycle—tires, brakes, chain, gears and fasteners, but it also has a battery, motor, display, sensors and electrical wiring. This schedule brings those checks together in one place.

Use it as a general guide for your Jasion ebike. For torque settings, display instructions and model-specific procedures, always follow the manual for your exact model.

Electric Bike Maintenance Schedule at a Glance

No single schedule fits every rider. Daily commuters, off-road riders and people who ride through rain or road salt should inspect their bikes more often. For most riders, the intervals below are a practical starting point.

Before Every Ride: A 5-Minute Safety Check

Walk around the bike before you set off. You are looking for anything that feels different from the last ride: a soft tire, a loose part, a weak brake lever or a cable sitting where it should not.

1. Tires and Tire Pressure

Check both tires with a pressure gauge when possible. Use the pressure range printed on the tire sidewall together with any instructions in your model manual.

A commuter tire, a 20-inch fat tire and a moped-style tire may all need different pressures. Rider weight, cargo and terrain also make a difference.

Before riding, look for:

  • Low pressure
  • Cuts, cracks or sidewall bulges
  • Worn tread
  • Glass, nails or other embedded objects
  • A tire bead that is not seated evenly on the rim

A noticeably soft tire should be inflated and checked for a puncture before the bike is ridden.

2. Front and Rear Brakes

Squeeze each brake lever separately. The lever should feel firm and predictable. It should not suddenly pull much closer to the grip than usual.

Then walk the bike forward and test each brake:

  1. Apply the front brake and gently push the bike.
  2. Apply the rear brake and repeat.
  3. Make sure each wheel is stopped by the correct lever.
  4. Listen for grinding, heavy scraping or new clicking sounds.

A little noise after rain can happen with disc brakes. Weak braking, a hydraulic fluid leak, metal-on-metal grinding or a sudden change in lever feel needs attention before the next ride.

3. Battery and Battery Lock

Make sure the battery is fully seated and locked in place. Check the housing, mount and charging-port area for damage or contamination.

Do not ride or charge the battery if you notice swelling, cracking, leaking, a burned smell, unusual heat or damaged contacts.

4. Handlebar, Stem and Steering

Stand in front of the bike and hold the front wheel between your legs. Gently try to turn the handlebar. The handlebar, stem and front wheel should move together without slipping.

Also make sure:

  • The handlebar lines up with the front wheel.
  • The grips do not rotate.
  • The stem does not rock or knock.
  • The display and brake levers stay in position.
  • Cables are not pinched, stretched or wrapped around the stem.

Do not ride with a loose handlebar, stem or steering assembly.

5. Saddle and Seatpost

Hold the saddle and try to twist it gently. It should stay in place. Check that the seatpost clamp is fully closed and that the seatpost has not been raised above its minimum-insertion mark.

6. Folding Hinges and Safety Latches

On a folding Jasion e-bike, check the frame hinge and folding stem before every ride.

  • Close each latch completely.
  • Engage the safety lock.
  • Check for unusual play after the latch is closed.
  • Make sure no cable is trapped in the hinge.

If a latch will not lock securely, stop and have it inspected. Do not try to “ride carefully” with a partly closed folding mechanism.

7. Wheels and Axles

Check that both wheels are secure. Lift one end of the bike slightly and spin the wheel. Watch for a badly wobbling rim, a tire rubbing the frame, a broken spoke or a tire that is not seated correctly.

Motor axle hardware is safety-critical. Do not loosen or tighten it without the correct tools and the model-specific torque specification.

8. Display, Lights and Assist System

Turn the bike on and confirm that the display starts normally. Check the battery indicator, headlight and taillight, and note any error code before switching the display off.

Test pedal assist and the throttle, where fitted and permitted, in a clear area at low speed. Stop if the motor cuts in unexpectedly or continues running after you stop the input.

After Wet, Muddy, Snowy or Salty Rides

Water alone is not the only concern. Mud holds moisture against the bike, while winter road salt can speed up corrosion on the chain, spokes, rack and exposed fasteners.

Switch the Bike Off First

Turn off the electrical system before cleaning. Remove the battery when the instructions for your model call for it. Do not inspect or separate electrical connectors while the bike is powered on.

Use a Cloth and Soft Brush

Wipe the frame, wheels, fenders, rack, fork, folding hinges and visible hardware. Use a soft brush for dried mud around the drivetrain.

Avoid pressure washers and strong water jets. They can drive water past seals and into bearings, connectors or electrical housings.

Dry the Charging Area

Make sure the charging port and nearby battery contacts are clean and dry before connecting the charger. Do not insert metal tools, cotton swabs or wet cloths into the port.

Wipe and Lubricate the Chain

Remove water and dirt from the chain with a cloth. Once the chain is dry, apply bicycle chain lubricant to the rollers while turning the crank slowly. Let it work into the links, then wipe away the excess.

The inside of the chain needs lubricant. A thick, wet coating on the outside only attracts more dirt.

Monthly or Every 200 Miles

Once a month—or roughly every 200 miles for a bike in regular use—set aside 15 to 30 minutes for a closer look. Shorten the interval if you commute daily or ride in harsh conditions.

Clean and Inspect the Drivetrain

Check the chain, chainring, rear gears, derailleur and derailleur pulleys. Clean off grit and old lubricant, then lubricate the chain after it has dried.

Pay attention to:

  • Rust or stiff chain links
  • Skipping under load
  • Delayed shifting
  • Repeated clicking in one gear
  • Damaged teeth
  • A bent derailleur or derailleur hanger

Keep lubricant and cleaning products away from brake pads, rotors and tires.

Check Brake Pads and Rotors

Use a light to look through the caliper at the remaining brake-pad material. Follow the wear limit for the brake system fitted to your bike. Replace pads that are worn out, cracked, unevenly worn or contaminated.

Inspect the rotors for deep scoring, visible bending, heavy discoloration or oil contamination.

For mechanical disc brakes, also check the cable and housing for rust, broken strands, kinks or too much slack. For hydraulic brakes, look for fluid around the lever, hose or caliper. A spongy lever or visible leak should be inspected by a technician.

Inspect Fasteners Without Overtightening

Check the handlebar, stem, brake calipers, seatpost clamp, pedals, crank arms, rack, fenders, kickstand, folding hardware and wheel mounting points.

Do not tighten every bolt “just to be safe.” Overtightening can strip threads or damage clamps and frames. Use the torque printed on the component or listed in the manual, and use a torque wrench for safety-critical parts.

Check Wheels, Rims and Spokes

Spin each wheel and watch the rim against the fork or frame. A small amount of movement may be serviceable, but a large side-to-side wobble, broken spoke, damaged rim or rough hub needs attention.

Wheel truing and spoke-tension correction are best handled by someone with the right tools and experience.

Look Over Electrical Cables

Visually inspect the cables you can reach. Look for cuts, crushed sections, exposed wire, melted insulation, corrosion or a connector that has worked loose.

Turn the handlebar fully left and right and make sure the cables do not pull tight or rub against the tire, chain or brake rotor.

Do not disconnect sealed connectors as routine maintenance, and do not spray chemicals into them unless Jasion Support or the model manual specifically tells you to do so.

Check the Rack, Fenders and Kickstand

Accessories often loosen before major components do. Make sure the rack, fenders, reflectors, lights, baskets and kickstand cannot move into the wheel, tire, chain or brake rotor.

Every 3–6 Months: A Deeper Inspection

This is a good time for a torque check and a careful inspection of parts that are harder to judge during a quick ride. High-mileage, cargo and off-road bikes may need this sooner.

Verify Safety-Critical Torque

Use the manual for your exact model and a torque wrench. Prioritize the stem, handlebar, brake calipers, cranks, pedals, seatpost clamp, suspension mounts, folding hardware, rack and wheel or motor mounting points.

Check the Headset and Bearings

Apply the front brake and rock the bike forward and backward. Knocking near the head tube can point to headset movement. Turn the handlebar slowly and feel for roughness or binding.

Check the pedals, cranks and wheels for side-to-side play, grinding or rough rotation. Bearing adjustment or replacement may require specialist tools.

Run Through Every Gear

During a controlled test ride, shift through the full gear range. The chain should move cleanly without repeated clicking or jumping.

A barrel adjuster can correct small cable-tension changes, but stop adjusting if the derailleur, hanger, wheel or frame looks bent.

Inspect the Suspension

Clean dirt from the fork and rear shock. Check for oil leaks, scratched sliding surfaces, excess movement, knocking or suspension that no longer compresses and returns normally.

Suspension units should not be opened without the correct service instructions and tools.

Inspect Folding Parts Closely

Look around the frame hinge and folding stem for cracks, deformation, worn contact surfaces, loose hardware or a latch that has become harder to close.

Any crack or unreliable lock is a stop-riding issue.

Annual E-Bike Service

Even a bike that feels fine can have hidden wear. A full inspection once a year is a sensible baseline, and high-mileage riders may need service more often.

An annual service may include:

  • Brake adjustment and brake-pad replacement
  • Hydraulic brake service, where applicable
  • Gear and derailleur adjustment
  • Chain and drivetrain wear measurement
  • Wheel truing and spoke-tension correction
  • Headset, hub and bottom-bracket inspection
  • Suspension and folding-mechanism inspection
  • Torque verification
  • Tire and tube assessment
  • Battery-mount and charging-port inspection
  • Electrical diagnostics
  • Frame and fork inspection

Battery Care and Charging Safety

The battery is not a routine DIY repair item. Keep it clean, dry and protected, use the correct charger, and stop using it at the first sign of damage.

Use the Charger Specified for the Bike

Use the charger supplied with the e-bike or a compatible replacement recommended for that battery and model. A charger that physically fits is not automatically electrically compatible.

Charge Where You Can Keep an Eye on It

Charge in a dry, ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and easily combustible materials. Do not cover the charger or battery while they are charging.

Follow the charger instructions and avoid charging while asleep or away from home. 

Do Not Leave the Battery Fully Empty

Try not to store a deeply discharged battery for an extended period. Charge to 100% when you need the full range; for shorter everyday trips, a full charge is not always necessary.

Store It Partially Charged

For storage lasting several weeks or longer, keep the battery in a cool, dry place at roughly 30%–60% charge. Check it periodically and top it up if the level falls too low.

Stop Using a Damaged Battery

Do not ride, charge, open or attempt to repair a battery that is swollen, cracked, leaking, smoking, hissing, unusually hot or giving off a strong chemical smell.

Move away from a smoking or burning battery and contact emergency services. Do not attempt to handle or extinguish a lithium-ion battery fire unless you are trained and it is safe to do so.

Having a tool does not make every repair a home repair. Battery work, controller repair, motor disassembly, hydraulic brake bleeding, wheel rebuilding and frame repair are better left to qualified technicians.

Adjust the Schedule to the Way You Ride

Daily Commuting

Watch tire pressure, brake wear, lights, chain condition and loose rack or fender hardware. A small rattle on Monday can become a missing bolt by Friday.

Rain and Winter Riding

Clean and dry the bike more often. Road salt is especially hard on chains, spokes, racks and exposed fasteners.

Off Road Riding

Check the tires, wheels, spokes, suspension, brake pads, derailleur and frame after rough rides. Mud can hide damage and speed up drivetrain wear.

Heavy Loads

Cargo adds stress to tires, wheels, brakes, racks and frame hardware. Stay within the payload and rack limits for your model.

Long-Term Storage

  1. Clean and dry the bike.
  2. Lubricate the chain.
  3. Inflate the tires to an appropriate pressure.
  4. Store the battery partially charged.
  5. Keep the bike in a dry location.
  6. Check the tires and battery periodically.

Stop Riding and Contact Support If You Notice

  • A swollen, leaking, cracked, smoking or unusually hot battery
  • A burned or melted charging port
  • Exposed, crushed or melted electrical wires
  • Weak or failed braking
  • A brake-fluid leak
  • A loose handlebar or stem
  • A folding latch that will not lock
  • A cracked or visibly bent frame or fork
  • A badly damaged tire, rim or wheel
  • Loose wheel or motor mounting hardware
  • Repeated motor cutouts
  • A persistent error code
  • Severe grinding, cracking or knocking noises

How often should an electric bike be serviced?

Check the basics before every ride, do a closer inspection monthly or around every 200 miles, and schedule a deeper inspection every three to six months. A professional service once a year is a reasonable starting point. Frequent commuters and off-road riders may need shorter intervals.

How often should I lubricate the chain?

Check it at least monthly and after wet, muddy, dusty or salty rides. Clean and lubricate the chain when it looks dry, sounds noisy or has picked up heavy dirt. Wipe off excess lubricant after application.

What tire pressure should I use on a Jasion e-bike?

Use the pressure range printed on the tire sidewall and the instructions for your exact model. Tire size, rider weight, cargo, road surface and weather all affect the best working pressure.

How do I know when the brake pads need replacing?

Follow the wear limit for the fitted brake system. Replace the pads when the friction material reaches that limit, or when braking becomes weak, the pads are contaminated, or you hear metal-on-metal grinding.

Can I wash an electric bike with water?

Use a damp cloth, soft brush and controlled low-pressure cleaning. Do not submerge electrical parts or direct high-pressure water at the battery, motor, display, controller area, connectors, bearings or charging port.

Should I charge the battery to 100% every time?

Charge to 100% when you need maximum range. For shorter everyday trips, a full charge is not always necessary. Avoid leaving the battery completely discharged for long periods.

Can I repair the battery or controller myself?

No. Do not open, rebuild, solder or modify the battery pack. Internal battery, controller and motor repairs should be carried out by qualified personnel using compatible parts.

Keep the Checks Simple—and Keep Doing Them

A maintenance routine works best when it is easy to repeat. Check the bike before riding, clean it after rough weather, inspect wear items each month and deal with new noises or changes in handling early.

    Hi, Ken! I hhave found improper deraileur alignment seems to be a thing with new Jasion models. I bought an EB5 roamer for my son for Christmas and, in addition to a warped wheel and brake rotor (which they did replace in time for Christmas) The bike refuses to shift into 7th and there is some crunchiness in other gears. I found a really good youtube video that walks through the basic steps of adjusting the deraileur and, although a bit tedious, is very straightforward:

    How do I get this guide? In particular, I need section 4. I just bought two new ebikes from Jasion. However, the derailer (spelling?) is not setting the chain properly in the gears in gears 1-3…too much clicking and not a clean connection (like it does in the upper gears). I tried to make a few adjustments, and it’s helped some; but not enough. I’ve tried contacting Customer Service, but they are not responding. Can you help?
